Brazilian manufacturer Embraer is on the verge of signing a deal for 50 of its regional jets with Iran.

Sources involved with the Iran-Brazil talks suggest that these will be part of a lease deal.

The civil aviation authority director Ali Abedzadeh said that regional aircraft would be in great demand in the country as it emerges from trade sanctions. He estimated that Iranian carriers would need about 160 aircraft in the 100-seat and below category.

Iran Air has recently ordered up to 40 ATR turboprops .

Recent figures from Iran suggest that 80% of domestic passengers are transported through just 14 airports in the country. The government is looking for private investment to support development of regional airport facilities.

Issues over the regional Iran aviation scene as well as the infrastructure challenges that growth will bring are to be discussed at the forthcoming Aviation Iran conference and exhibition which will take place in Dubai in September.
