Two short-haul flights have declared on-board emergencies in the air above France.

A Ryanair flight from Liverpool to Spain and a Germanwings flight from Dusseldorf to Faro have both been redirected.

Both planes have been redirected to Bordeaux airport after declaring on-board emergencies.

A spokesman for Ryanair confirmed that the emergency is not terrorism-related, adding that the flight had been forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger became ill.

"The aircraft will depart to Alicante shortly and Ryanair apologised to customers for the short delay to their flight.”

The Germanwings flight  4U9642 is also understood to have been diverted after an elderly male passenger was reported "heart problems".
