Neste and United Airlines expand their sustainable aviation fuel supply agreements across the U.S. and the Netherlands

Neste and United Airlines have extended their agreement for the supply of sustainable aviation fuel, blended with conventional jet fuel, for flights departing from Chicago O’Hare International Airport in the U.S. and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands. The renewed agreement strengthens the long‑term strategic partnership between the two companies and underscores their shared commitment to reducing aviation‑related greenhouse gas emissions through the continued deployment of SAF.

Under the extended contract, Neste began supplying SAF to United Airlines at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in June 2026, with deliveries continuing through August 2026. SAF deliveries to Chicago O’Hare International Airport commenced in July 2026 and are scheduled to run until June 2027. As part of the agreement, Neste will provide United with its Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™, blended with conventional jet fuel.

Lauren Riley, Chief Sustainability Officer at United Airlines commented: "United wasthe first airline in the world to fly on blended SAF in regular operations, and we've spent the years since proving it can work at scale in day-to-day flying – including being the first airline to purchase and use blended SAF at Chicago O'Hare. Continuing our work with Neste across two continents reflects a shared conviction that SAF is available and capable of being scalable."

United increased its use of sustainable aviation fuel significantly in 2025, consuming more than 83,000 metric tons—about 27.7 million gallons—representing a 104% year‑over‑year increase. This made United the largest SAF user among major U.S. airlines, based on publicly available data. During the year, the airline also expanded SAF deployment to three additional hub airports—Newark, Washington D.C., and Houston—bringing SAF usage to six of its seven domestic hubs.

United has been using Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol since 2022. The airline was the first in the world to integrate SAF into ongoing, day‑to‑day operations. Through the use of SAF and other emissions‑reduction measures, United continues to advance toward its commitment to achieving net‑zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

At Chicago O’Hare, United became the first airline to purchase and use blended SAF in August 2024. As United’s largest hub by daily departures and one of its most important global gateways, O’Hare plays a central role in scaling the use of blended SAF across the airline’s day‑to‑day operations.
